ABOUT FUTURE PHYSICIAN LEADERS

The Future Physician Leaders (FPL) program is a summer mentorship program started in 2009 by Dr. Raul Ruiz. It is a free seven week program consisting of four components: the Leadership Lecture Series, Community Health Project, Program Symposium, and Physician Shadowing. High school and college students interested in healthcare professions are able to explore community health and participate in future networking events. The program's main focus is to allow students to connect with the Inland Empire population all while preparing them for their futures in medical school, residency, and career. Due to the recent COVID-19 crisis, students are creating virtual versions of their community health projects and extensive websites in order to continue educating their communities.

PROGRAM COMPONENTS

COMMUNITY HEALTH PROJECT

Students work in teams to design, implement, and evaluate their own Community Health Projects. With the help of biweekly workshops, the project is developed and taught to residents of the Inland Empire community. Each CHP team also creates a final report and poster to be presented at a final symposium in August.
