As students from the Inland Empire located in Southern California, we see the drastic effects of mental illness and substance abuse pervade our own communities. In an effort to combat this silent killer, educate the population, and work towards preventative care, we have selected "the co-occurrence of depression and substance abuse" as our Community Health Project focus for the Future Physician Leaders 2020 program. This website was created as a one-stop shop for information about this topic and mental health resources, especially amidst the COVID-19 crisis.

Our Brains on Dopamine

Norepinephrine and dopamine re-uptake inhibitors (NDRIs) are antidepressant medications. NDRIs block the transport of norepinephrine and dopamine back into the brain cells that released them. In turn, a greater number of active neurotransmitters remain available in the brain, and may lead to changes that relieve the symptoms of depression.

We hope that our resources provide a dose of dopamine!
